荔园社区于1992年设立，名称沿用至今；“荔园”之名，据介绍是因小区附近种有荔枝树。[1]

社区占地约0.17平方千米，由荔园小区、荔景园小区、金港小区及邮局宿舍等组成。[1]辖内有小学、幼儿园、医院、邮局和超市。[1]
