下沙社区是黄埔街道内的转制社区，由原下沙村改设，位于黄埔区城区中心，包括下沙、珠江、新溪、大吉沙4个自然村，共十一个经济社。[2]辖区面积约5.6平方千米，境内留有清代的宗祠和炮台。[1][2]居委会设在黄埔公园西路28号A栋四楼。[3]
历史沿革[edit]
1974年设下沙村民委员会；2002年黄埔撤镇设街，村委会改为下沙社区居民委员会，沿用至今。[2]“下沙”之名，据介绍是因旧村坐落在珠江冲积形成的一条沙脊下侧的沙田区。[2]
人口民族[edit]
博雅地名网所载介绍（未注明年份）称，户籍常住人口5270人，另有约5000名外来暂住人口；农用耕地1200多亩，山林地260多亩；设12个党支部，党员112名。[2]
经济[edit]
社区设党总支、居民委员会和董事会三套班子，辖内办学校2所（公办小学、民办学校各1所），幼儿园2所，另有1个市场和约20家企业。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
狮山炮台建在中山大道南侧的狮山上，清光绪十年（1884）修建，现存巷道、巷门和炮池；牌坊式巷门为红砖砌筑，高5米、宽3.5米。[1]
下沙吴氏大宗祠在下沙大街，清咸丰六年（1856）落成，2003年依原样重修，为三间两进；下沙张氏大宗祠清咸丰三年（1853）始建，后经民国年间与2003年两次重修，亦为三间两进。[1]下沙蒲氏宗祠在珠江下街九巷，列入第七批广州市文物保护单位（2008年12月公布）。[1]
