城东社区位于上杭县城东侧，紧邻城区，是县城的东大门。社区名称来自其地处县城之东的位置。[1]

此地原为城东村，1993年归临城镇管辖，2002年7月改为社区居委会建制。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时此地属城厢镇的石牌岗保。解放初称城东村，1952年改设城东乡，1958年公社化后并入城郊公社。[2]

其后经过拆分与重组，先后归城郊乡、临城乡的村民委员会管理，1993年归入临城镇，2002年7月起设为城东社区居民委员会。[2]

2006年以来，社区获第九、第十、第十一届县级文明社区称号。[3]
