蔡屋村地处松毛岭脚下，是长汀的南大门，也是红军长征出发地之一。最早在此开基的是蔡氏，村名由此而来。[1]

建国初为南山区蔡屋乡；公社化后归中南公社，随后改属南山公社，村内设红胜大队；1961年间，蔡屋在中复公社之下成为大队，1965年复归南山公社；1984年起称村民委员会。[1]
