下村是堂堡镇南部的行政村，位于镇区下方，距镇政府约1公里，是堂堡通往合溪乡的必经之路。[1]

村名来历：因地处堂堡集镇下方而得名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年前此地属堂溪乡，称下村保。1952年划入堂堡十二区，设下村乡；1956年并入堂堡乡，改称下村村。1958年设管理区，1961年为堂堡公社下村大队。[1]

2020年1月起，村归堂堡镇下村村民委员会管理；此前自1984年起，它称堂堡乡下村村民委员会。[1]

2021年11月，下村获福建省爱卫办授予「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。2020年12月，村被认定为龙岩市第一批「中级版绿盈乡村」；2023年2月，村上榜福建省第三批「高级版绿盈乡村」名单。[1]

永定区于2024年6月把下村列为2024年区级「一村一品」专业村；福建省则在2024年11月认定其为2024年度「一村一品」专业村，产品为油茶。[1]

村里以种植水稻、烤烟为主，兼营林果和养殖。[1]
