桂林乡位于福建省南平市邵武市西南部，地处福建、江西两省与邵武、建宁、泰宁、黎川四县的交界处，乡域东南连着肖家坊镇，南侧挨着和平镇，西侧与江西的黎川县熊村镇接壤，北侧则是金坑乡。乡名出自一则传说：明代这一带桂树成林，遂称桂林。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代此地属昼锦乡；明时属昼锦上乡，当时称三十八都。[1][3]

1949年此地设儒林乡，1958年划归肖家坊公社并成立桂林大队，1961年析出另设桂林公社。1984年9月，桂林公社撤销，改设为乡，此后沿用至今。[1][3]

1990年，邵武市辖19个乡镇和街道，桂林乡是其中之一。[2]

地理环境[edit]

殳山、余山、巫山动植物保护区位于乡境之内。博雅地名网称，乡内毛竹林面积占全市四分之一，因而有「竹子之乡」之誉。[3]

2014年6月，环境保护部授予桂林乡「2012—2013年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。[3]

经济[edit]

农业以水稻为主，兼产莲子和茶叶。[3]

2016年7月，农业部认定桂林乡为「第六批全国一村一品示范村镇」，主导产品为邵武笋干。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

惠林屋桥在惠林村，建于清代。博雅地名网记其为县级文物保护单位。[4]

横坑村有清代的摩崖石刻和黄氏家庙，博雅地名网同样记为县级文物保护单位。[4]

下岚村一带有中央红军上岚第十八兵站旧址与上岚区苏维埃政府旧址，两处皆为清代建筑；村中的严续墓，年代为宋至清。[4]
