上元村在九龙山下，属九龙十三乡之一。村子由谢厝、李厝两个自然村组成，现已基本连成一片。[1]

村名取溪流上游源头之意，因“源”与“元”读音相近，遂写作上元。[1]

2022年11月，上元村被确定为「2021年度全国综合减灾示范社区」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时期村子属顺阳乡菘溪都的上源村；1940年设上元堡，归沙口乡；1950年改属大干第三区河墩乡。1959年称上源大队，隶大干公社；1961年改为埔上公社的上元大队；1984年起称上元村民委员会，归埔上乡管辖。[1]
