水南街道位于南平城区南面，因处在闽江南岸而得名，下辖11个社区和8个行政村。[1][2]

街道东南接夏道镇，西南与西芹镇挨着，西面与北面隔江同四鹤、水东两街道遥望。外福铁路和316国道横贯境内，京福高速公路在此连接。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

1934年，此处编在第一区（城关）之内；1937年起，它成为圣安、进贤两乡的组成部分。1958年11月划入东坑红旗人民公社，次年改归东坑公社。[3]

1982年设立水南街道，归南平市人民政府城市工作办公室管理。1991年6月该办公室撤销，街道改属县级南平市人民政府；1995年1月南平撤市设区，街道属延平区。[3]

1992年11月东坑乡撤销后，乡内的东坑、八仙、上地、玉地、岭炳洋、罗源等村以及尤坑一地归入街道。1999年，林钢、尤坑、沙门、后甲与鲤鱼洲等五个社区被撤并。[3]

2001年11月，岭下桥社区被撤，九峰社区随之设立。2015年，院口社区不复存在，当年新设的是江南与世华两个社区。2017年8月，际头场改设为际源村。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

横际罗从彦墓为宋代遗存，位于上地村，列入区级文物保护单位。[4]

罗从彦墓与特祠在上地村与罗源村一带。特祠始于明代弘治年间，清乾隆三十四年（1769年）重建。第九批福建省级文物保护单位中，这处墓与特祠于2018年入选。[5]

罗源村另有南山罗从彦祠堂，为清代遗存，列入区级文物保护单位。[4]

位于玉地村的杨龟山祠为清代遗存，列入区级文物保护单位。[4]

位于岭炳洋村的北湖张公殿为清代遗存。[4]

九峰社区内有九峰西塔（明代，列入区级文物保护单位）与九峰后山大墓（元代），另有红军战壕沟遗址一处，年代为中华民国时期。[4]

位于后谷村的后谷龙船山遗址属青铜时代遗址。[4]
