村庄建在永丰溪西侧一片大块平田旁，旧时称大片良田为「洋田」，村名由此而来。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

村中现存清代邹氏「源本堂」，建筑保留着清代牛角式城堡式的样式，据博雅地名网称已申请列为文物保护点。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2024年1月，西洋村被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]
