湖塘村是东山县陈城镇下辖的行政村，位于东山岛西南端，古称南湖、碧浦。村域面积4.04平方公里，人口3054人，共870户。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

唐末宋初，理学家蔡元鼎在大帽山讲学，其后定居南湖。明末清初，村落已发展出七个蔡姓自然村。[1]

清初迁界时，居民迁往内地；台湾归顺后，人们陆续迁回，重建家园。此后村子在1958年成为人民公社下的湖塘大队，并于1984年改称湖塘村。[1]

解放前风沙肆虐，淹没田地与民房，庄稼时常绝收。1958年村中封沙造林，风沙灾害由此得以解除。[1]

人物[edit]

明万历年间，村中乡贤蔡方平任浙江淳安县令，据载其为官清廉。他开仓济民，减轻百姓差役，疏浚长期为患的水道，并组织商业流通。淳安百姓为他建蔡公祠，万历三十七年（1609年）朝廷赐匾「廉光浙水」。[1]

其长子蔡保祯隐居大帽山著书，所著《孝纪》十六卷收入《四库全书》，黄道周为之作序。[1]

经济[edit]

村域耕地2200亩，林地3800亩，盐埕465亩，海滩4000亩。村中引进适合沙质地的芦笋，近年又发展滩涂养殖，并有牡蛎吊养、网箱与虾池养殖。[1]
