东城村位于赤湖镇区东侧，村名取自它在赤湖城东边的位置。[1]

1984年，东城改为村委会，沿用至今。东城村于2022年12月获「2022年福建省卫生村」称号，命名单位为福建省爱国卫生运动委员会。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时期，东城属赤湖乡下的东城保。新中国初期归第六区赤湖镇管辖；1958年9月划归赤湖公社协力大队，1962年另设东城大队，1984年起称东城村委会。[2]
