东园村位于东海之滨，土地肥沃，灌溉便利。此地原来用作蔬菜园，开闽始祖林禄公看中这里的条件，遂前来移居建村。[1]

村民多从事微小型环保建材的制造和服装的小型加工，村中还有旅菲、港澳侨胞数百多人。[1]

地名由来[edit]

因靠近东海边的一片种植园地，故称“东园”。[1]

相传林氏移民原计划在古盘山下建村，后见西南方有一块平整肥沃的园地，于是在其东侧建村，村名“东园”，雅称“锦林”。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时属十九都；1953年改隶莲坂区，1956年划为锦村大队，1958年归祥芝公社。明代中期，胡氏迁入本地。[2]

1989年才设立东园村委会；1999年起隶属鸿山镇。[2]
