西洋村原名西阳，位于赤水镇西部，村委会驻地海拔910米，村内自然村有墓林、梓岭墘、半岭、加湖、五溪园和山母仔6处。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

村中有一座西阳祖厝，后来因方言读音相近，西阳被改写为西洋。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

明、清两代此地属德化县赤水区西洋保；新中国成立后归赤水区西岭乡，称西洋村。[4]

1958年划入赤水人民公社西洋大队；1984年起称赤水乡西洋村；1992年7月乡制撤销，本村改隶赤水镇，并设立村委会。[4]

清顺治年间，苏姓先祖迁到山母仔开基；明代，涂姓先祖迁入西阳。[2]

村民以农业为主，副业有炼铁、烧砖和制瓦。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2021年11月，福建省爱卫办授予西洋村「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。[1]
