上西村是后龙镇下辖的行政村，位于湄洲湾南岸，村内有福建炼油公司的十万吨级油码头。[1]

地名由来[edit]

此地原有两座山：一座形似象，称象山，后亦名角仔山；一座形似狮，称狮山，后亦名烟墩山。村名先作象狮村，后因读音相近写作「上西」。[1]

沿革[edit]

明清时属九都梅峰铺，民国时属梅东乡鲤峰保。1949年后，先后划归八区、九区、十三区下的鲤峰乡与岩石乡。1958年归超先公社鲤峰大队，1961年析出为后龙公社上西大队，1985年改设上西村委会。[1]
