城东社区位于泉州市东北部，距市区约六公里，隶属华大街道。社区名称取自其位于泉州府城之东的地理位置，社区内有城东、后路、前林、碗窑、新厝头五个自然村。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代此地属晋江县，明清时期归晋江县三十八都管辖。民国时期属晋江县东洛镇，后称东北乡。1950年划入晋江县第三区，1953年改隶第四区，1958年划归泉州市，并入东海人民公社。1961年从东海公社分出，建立城东人民公社；1984年称城东村，2004年由村转为社区，成立城东社区居委会。[2]

地理环境[edit]

社区为丘陵地形，国道324线189公里处即在其境内，福厦公路穿过城东与前林两个居民小组之间。社区东北面接华侨大学；西与西北面连着清源山风景区，东与东南面连着浔美工业开发区，南边隔水对着南埔工业小区。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

后路与碗窑两个自然村内保存有宋代古碗窑遗址，以及元代魏氏入泉始祖魏九朗的祖墓，二者均已列为泉州市级保护文物。[2]

社区内靠近清源山主峰的南岭一带，有天然石室「仙家室」，俗称「仙吊石」。相传五代紫霄真人谭峭曾在此修行，石室西南另有天然佛龛「仙姑龛」。[2]

经济[edit]

社区地处山地，适宜亚热带植物生长，以龙眼为主要物产。龙眼果肉鲜美，可以加工成罐头，龙眼干则运销外地。[2]
