水南镇位于将乐县中部，镇政府驻溪南村，在金溪南岸，与县城隔河相望，相距约1公里^[1]。镇辖2个社区，另有7个行政村^[1]^[7]。

历史沿革[edit]

明清两代，此地称水南都，村落分属上水南福星坊等处^[3]。1934年，水南都改为保，设水南、溪南两保，并设第一区署于此，划入桃溪联保；1939年改隶古镛镇^[3]。

1950年设新南乡，1952年改称水南乡，1958年改为红星公社下的大队。1959年设水南综合农场，下辖六个管区；1970年并入城关公社，组成水南公社；1979年又改回农场^[3]。

水南农场撤销、水南镇设立，都发生在1998年1月。农场原有的六个管区此时转为乾滩、渡头、溪南、三班、水南、新兴六个村，镇里同年6月另建六个居委会，此后于2003年5月合为金华、银华两个社区^[1]^[2]。

荣誉方面，2014年7月，水南镇被确定为「全国重点镇」；同年9月，环境保护部授予其「2012年—2013年度国家级生态乡镇」称号^[1]。2021年10月与2022年10月，淘宝镇名单先后发布，水南镇均列其中^[1]。「2023年福建省卫生乡镇」的称号，时间在2024年1月，水南镇获此称号^[1]。

地理环境[edit]

镇域总面积约25.4平方千米，此数据见于博雅地名网，未注明年份^[2]。镇境内福银高速公路，以及省道金泰线、岭文线纵贯而过^[1]。

境内矿藏有煤、铁、铅、锌、石灰石和粘土等^[2]。

名胜古迹[edit]

乌石山麓葬有宋代理学家杨时（龟山）。墓前立有明成化六年（1470年）重修坟墓时竖立的墓碑，碑面刻「宋龟山文靖杨先生神墓」，墓前另有一座重檐牌楼，匾额题「倡道东南」「程氏正宗」。此墓于1985年10月被省政府定为省级重点文物保护单位^[6]。

溪南路124号的谢氏宗祠，原为溪南书院。1931年至1934年间，红军三次进驻水南，在此设立水南区苏维埃政府，书院即为办公地点。该处现定名为「红军驻地暨水南区苏维埃政府旧址」^[4]。宗祠为明代所建，是单檐硬山顶的砖木结构厅堂。1933年8月，红军围攻将乐县城时，一部官兵曾驻扎在溪南书院；1993年6月，县人民政府公布此处为县级文物保护单位^[4]。
