水南村位于沙县城南，地处沙溪河南岸，辖水南、八十桌、余廖厝、东山庙、叮当本五个自然村，土地总面积11593亩，村民以杨、余、张、黄、邓、庄等姓为主。[1]

205国道、向莆铁路和南三龙铁路穿村而过。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村名因靠近沙溪河、位于县城南岸而得名。1958年设立水南农业生产大队，此后先后隶属红旗人民公社、城关公社和虬江公社。1984年，改为凤岗镇水南居民委员会；1995年6月，更名为水南村委会，仍属凤岗镇；2003年9月起隶属虬江街道。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

村内有将军祠，为纪念唐代崇安镇将邓光布而建的祠堂，现存建筑为清代重修。[3][4]

水南将军渡旧址为唐代古文化遗址，载于沙县区第四次全国文物普查新发现名录。[5]
