水南社区位于福建省莆田市荔城区黄石镇的集镇区内，距镇政府很近，是镇里交通与商贸较为集中的地方。社区以原水南村为基础，2014年设立居委会。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

早年村民在溪流南岸建居，地名由此而来，称为水南。[4]

历史沿革[edit]

地方记载此处始建于宋代，当时仍属莆田县，周边二十四铺都在水南境内。宋元时期归感德乡，明清时期划入四区莆田里，民国时分为三区的洙亭保与登美保。[3]

新中国成立后，这里先设水南乡，再组成黄石乡下的水南高级社。1958年此地被编为黄石人民公社的一个生产大队，此后于1987年更名为水南村，2002年则划入荔城区。2014年，此地设立了居民委员会。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

谷城宫位于社区境内的山兜自然村，亦称谷城祖庙。宫址原在谷城山梅隐岩，后于崇祯年间迁至荷岭重建，为莆田二十四景“谷城梅雪”的一部分。宫内现存明代石雕观音像与清代《青山禁伐碑》，2009年列为福建省第七批省级文物保护单位。[5]
