东星社区是西天尾镇下辖的一个社区，前身为东星村，1986年改设居委会，2002年起属荔城区西天尾镇。社区名称取自早年境内霞东、霞星两个高级社各取的一字。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

社区名称来自早年境内的霞东、霞星两个高级社，各取一字合成「东星」。[1]

宋元时它在武化乡尊贤里一带；明清时分散于二、三两区的官塘、下宇、西天尾、汀林、田厝等地名之下。民国时归一区西天尾保管辖，新中国成立初改属一区延寿乡。五十年代初隶七区，继而划入十区。1957年由霞东社与霞星高级社组成，1958年并入涵江公社汀林大队；1961年另立西天尾公社东星大队。1984年东星大队改称乡下的村民委员会，1986年随镇建制改为居委会。2002年以来归荔城区西天尾镇。[2]

2021年3月，社区被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」。[1]
