南华社区是厦港街道下辖的社区，地处南华路一带。据博雅地名网所载，这里曾是厦门最早的华侨居住地，社区名称与南华路相关。[1]

地名由来[edit]

相传一百多年前，此地是一个许姓望族的聚居处，家族衰落后地方也随之败落。20世纪30年代，许多归国华侨到此买地建屋，形成一排排依山而建的独门独院宅第，既有南洋的样式，也带闽南的特点，南华路由此再度兴盛。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

此地清末属厦港保，抗战胜利后设大澳保，1950年归大学街政委员会。1955年厦港街道办事处设立后，这里先设东澳居委会，1966年改称前锋居委会，1973年5月又分出厦大居委会。[2]

1998年，这里分出南华居委会；2002年和2003年，相邻的居委会先后并入，形成现在的南华社区。[2]
