湖塘村位于鼓山镇，解放前称湖塘自然村，村名据称与村中田间的洼塘有关。村中的镇东境庙，碑文记其始建于宋代；王氏宗祠建于清道光六年（1826年）。[1]

解放前此地称湖塘自然村。博雅地名网记，因田野间洼塘众多，遂有湖塘之称。[1]

村委会成立于1989年。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

镇东境庙的碑文记载，庙宇始建于宋朝，庙中奉祀射鳝三郎，后因殿堂陈旧而显出败象。[1]

村中的王氏宗祠，据博雅地名网所载始建于清道光六年（1826年），至今已有近二百年。[1]
