历史沿革[edit]
此村起初是饶平县坪石村的一部分。村民讲客家话，同饶平通行的潮汕话互不相通，距当时的饶平县政府也远，而烧制陶瓷、日常往来和习俗都与桃源镇更亲近，于是两县政府同意，在1956年9月把它划给大埔县桃源镇。[1]最初叫上坪，1981年地名普查时发现与光德镇的上坪同名，才改作坪新。[1]
荣誉[edit]
坪新村入选「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位，公示在2019年9月。[1]
