民国时期属塘蓬乡，解放后属塘头山乡；人民公社化的1958年，设根竹山大队，其后1983年称根竹山乡，到1987年，改设村民委员会，1989年再设管理区办事处，1999年起，恢复村民委员会之名[1]。
