跃进之名始于1964年的跃进大队，原属梅菉头大队；1975年并回；1978年重新单立，设居委会；1983年称管理区，2002年复称居委会。[1]

跃进社区在吴川市城区东北，成立于1964年，面积2平方千米，约8900人，设5个居民小组。[1]
社区的飘色、泥塑是当地的文化品牌；辖区内有佛教场所普应禅林，以及纪念大刀会抗日的英志堂。[1]
2019年9月，该社区列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
