五堡村在双水镇北端，北临潭江，西南靠罗坑镇，与会城的七堡相邻。[1] 村名来自早年由五个居民点（寿、星、龟、鹿、鹤）联保，合称五堡。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

相传清乾隆年间（1736年—1795年），谈、陈两姓先祖从今罗坑镇迁来立村，随后梁、陈、区、郑等姓也相继迁入。[1] 后来各处另有称呼：东南叫超群，西北叫潭村，中部叫贵冈，西南叫榕村，东北有四九、里村、冲茶等，但总名仍是五堡。[1] 明万历年间的县志里能查到冲茶、超群这两处，当时属潮居都。[1] 民国时分属天湖乡、笋岭乡（第六区），到1951年才成立五堡乡。人民公社时期，这里属罗坑区、五堡管理区，后归小冈人民公社，1965年定称五堡大队。[1]

经济[edit]

村内设22个村民小组，面积4.05平方千米，人口3520人，耕地4000多亩，其中水稻2500多亩、鱼塘700多亩，养殖白对虾、桂花鱼和鸭、鹅，另有香蕉、柑桔等作物800多亩。[1] 2019年9月，五堡村列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
