总村的前身是1957年的高级社，翌年改称大队。1983年称乡，1987年称管理区，1999年撤区建村，成立村民委员会。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2018年度广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单（2019年9月公布）中有总村；2024年3月，它被命名为2023年度广东省卫生村；2026年3月，又在广东省第三批「百千万工程」典型村镇之列。[1]
著名人物[edit]
刘汉兴（原名良胜）1916年出生在总村的贫苦人家；刘马达（1928年生）也是总村人。[2]
