博雅地名网记载，这里最初叫「顿纲」：地名的由来与镇相同：明景泰二年（1451年）先民开始在此兴修水利、整顿纲常，方圆数十里称作顿纲，因读音相近写成顿岗；据说最早的住民是由福建上杭迁来的陈氏文安公。[1]
