新城村因前身的新城乡而得名。该乡设立时与毗邻的连城乡相对，两地各取一个“城”字，新城之名由此而来，并一直沿用。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

赖氏始祖荣奇于明万历四年（1576年）从英德县厥寓迁来，落户于三都的路话，是村内最早的一支。之后，黄伟奇的五子金珩于1586年自泗纶路营分支迁到新城上湾，陈、张等姓也陆续迁入。今村内共13姓，赖姓最多，约占三成。[1][2]

1958年公社化后，新城设生产大队，归泗纶公社。1983年改为新城乡，归泗纶区管辖；1986年换成村民委员会；1989年一度成为管理区，1999年才又恢复村委会的名称。[2]
