新城镇位于新兴县中北部，是县委和县人民政府的驻地，新兴县城即设于镇内。镇名取意于此地为新兴县城所在地。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

1952年6月，此地从第一区分出，设为区级镇，名为城关镇。1958年9月，本地与车岗、洞口两乡合组为红旗公社；1959年1月改为新城公社，1964年5月恢复城关镇名，1987年4月定名新城镇。[1]

经济[edit]

1998年，新城镇被列为「广东省乡镇企业百强镇」。据博雅地名网，镇内不锈钢餐厨用具的生产与出口在全国镇一级单位中规模最大。[2]

2024年8月1日，镇内召开淡水（特种）鱼苗品牌共建的专家核审会，与会专家一致同意授予新城镇「中国淡水（特种）鱼苗之乡」称号。当地鱼苗养殖与孵化业由来已久。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

新兴县博物馆位于中山路72号的中山公园内，2000年10月12日对外开放。2013年5月2日，博物馆入选「第二批国家三级博物馆」。[4]
