后溪乡位于普宁市西南部的南阳山区，西北边与陆丰市、陆河县交界，东南边靠大坪镇和大坪农场[1][2]。境内峨嵋嶂一带山地连绵，据网易刊载的介绍，峨嵋嶂海拔约980米，为普宁最高峰[3]。1959年设立国营后溪林场，1989年设乡，2019年11月被认定为「2019年广东省森林小镇」[1][3]。农业以青梅、茶叶和油茶为主，乡内通行客家话，属革命老区[3]。

历史沿革[edit]

清代，今乡境先后属海丰县和陆丰县，民国时期仍属陆丰县[1][3]。解放战争时期此地属解放区南阳山特区（1949年初）。1950年3月划归普宁县，先后隶属普宁县第六区、第十二区、第十三区和大坪乡[1][2]。1958年并入南阳山人民公社，次年分出，成立广东省国营后溪林场，1972年林场分为国营和农村集体两部分[1][3]。1989年设乡，同年增挂后溪乡人民政府牌子[1][2]。

地理环境[edit]

乡境为峨嵋嶂山地，多峡谷和瀑布，中间有较宽的谷地[3]。气候属亚热带季风气候[2]。面积的数字各有不同：百度百科载区域总面积66.98平方千米[2]，博雅地名网载约70.7平方千米[1]。乡名取自龙江上游的后溪滨洲[1][2]。

乡址向东有公路通往里湖一带，向西经半径一带接公路通陆河县[1]。

人口民族[edit]

第七次全国人口普查结果为约9700人[1]，百度百科载2019年末户籍人口14003人[2]。客家话在乡内通行，是普宁客家方言分布较集中的地方之一[3]。

文化[edit]

2025年2月1日，后溪乡教育文化促进会在乡政府举行成立大会[6]。

经济[edit]

乡内以特色农业为主，青梅、茶叶和油茶是主要产业[3]。高山茶园有矿坑上嶂湖茶园、半径耀石茶园等，油茶种植也在发展[3]。博雅地名网列出的特产有杉木、水果和茶叶[1]。

名胜古迹[edit]

峨嵋嶂半山腰的圆通庵，博雅地名网称为宋代肇建[1]。网易刊载的介绍则说庵始建于宋代，现存庵寺建于清代，位于海拔约600米的岩体上[3]。庵在圆明村辖区内，两处说法的年代不一致，此处各自保留。

坑楼村保存有客家古建筑「司马第」，是游客探访的地方[3]，见坑楼村。

革命遗址[edit]

后溪属南阳山区农村革命根据地的一部分，留有多处革命遗址[4]。乡农会成立旧址为娘妈宫（今称七圣宫）[4]，该处的沿革另见平洋村。红军急救站旧址为春生堂药店，在埔楼村，经修复保留[3]，2020年还组织过参观[5]。永福楼是1928年后溪乡年关暴动的指挥部，已修复为爱国主义教育基地[3]。

此外有「中共陆丰县委大坪约三乡党支部成立旧址」，即坑楼村福庆宫[4]；后溪赤卫队成立旧址为杨桃树炯章公祠堂[4]。
