梅塘镇是广东省揭阳市普宁市下辖的镇，位于市境西北部。东面与大坝镇、燎原街道接界，西面紧邻里湖镇，北面以榕江主航道为界，与揭西县金和镇相邻。镇名来自驻地原有的一口池塘，池塘周边遍植梅树。1986年撤区建镇，2024年3月被命名为「2023年广东省卫生乡镇」。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时期，此地属普宁黄坑都。民国时期分属普宁县第三区和第二区，新中国成立后先后属普宁县梅峰区、里湖区和第九区。1957年分区设梅塘、溪南两乡，1958年3月并为梅塘乡，当年9月起归里湖人民公社管辖。1961年3月重新设立里湖梅塘公社与溪南公社，两社均由里湖分出，1963年1月溪南公社并入梅塘。1983年改社为区，1986年又改区为镇。[1][2]

镇域面积，据2018年总体规划草案公告为75.58平方千米。博雅地名网载为73.1平方千米，百度百科载为76平方千米，三说不一，此处以规划公告为准。省道安（流）前（埔）公路横贯镇中部，县道梅棉公路与榕江水运相连。[1][2][3]

人口民族[edit]

第七次全国人口普查时，梅塘镇人口为11.02万人（博雅地名网）。百度百科另载2019年末户籍人口146167人，两者统计口径不同，分别列出。[1][2]

经济[edit]

镇内工业有服装、食品、美术工艺等行业，长美村的陶瓷业已有百年以上历史。[2]

洞仔杨梅是梅塘镇的特色农产品，主产于景光村。[4]

2020年9月、2021年10月和2022年10月，梅塘镇先后列入阿里研究院公布的「淘宝镇」名单。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

镇内的县级文物保护单位有泗坑村的普宁白水岩，以及社山村的浴龙岩（又称社山庵）。[5][6][7]
