新乡村位于前詹镇西面，离镇址约5公里，是一个纯农村庄。村中种植以水稻、甘薯、花生和水果为主。[1]

明万历年间（1590～1600年），张、黄等姓先来此定居，后刘氏迁入。清康熙年间（1712～1722年），部分居民迁至旧址西侧另建村落，两处同称新乡。后人以先建者为老乡，后建者为新乡。[1]

1958年后归大队辖下，经济上独立核算；1975年分出设立新乡大队，1983至1986年改称新乡乡政府，1987年改为新乡管理区，1999年改为新乡村委会。[1]
