东福村位于惠城镇东南侧，东横路与环南二路在村中交叉，属县城南区规划控制区。村旧称“七乡”，俗称“七乡方”，村民多为方姓。村北的赤山古院是广东省文物保护单位。[1][4]

历史沿革[edit]

1195年，东莞县尉方骥之的长子方孟全迁居此地。宋代这里是桥公圩所在，周围居民点统称“东福阜”。明代中期，原住的郑、张、陈、何等姓先后迁走，方姓成为村中主要居民。[1]

惠来于1524年置县，东福阜属惠来都管辖。1940年设东福乡，1949年东福乡属惠城镇。1958年9月，东福改为大队，归华湖公社领导。1983年11月又设东福乡，1986年11月改为管理区，直到1999年才成为村委会。[3]

人口与面积[edit]

名胜古迹[edit]

赤山古院位于村北，始建于元至正二年（1342年），明嘉靖三十二年（1553年）重建，2015年12月10日公布为第八批广东省文物保护单位。[4][5]

村南的石壁庵也是村中的名胜，庵右侧原有葵阳保障宫殿遗址。[2]

荣誉[edit]

东福村于2019年9月进入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
