1951年为东明乡；1958年为东明大队；1983年为东明乡；1986年为东明村委会；1990年为东明管理区；1999年为东明村委会，至今沿用[1]。

据维基百科，陈氏第十世的十二郎公于清康熙年间携眷迁入饶平县小榕，并在东明村定居[2]。

2024年4月，东明村入选「广东省第一批乡村振兴示范村」创建名单；2022年8月，东明村列入「2022年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建名录；2021年9月，东明村获「第二批全国乡村治理示范村」称号；东明村于2019年12月进入「第一批国家森林乡村」名单；2019年9月，东明村上榜「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单[1]。
