下湖村是潮安区江东镇下辖的行政村，位于镇域南部，东南与佘厝洲村相邻，离镇政府约6公里。村子古称东湖，因与上湖分为两村、本村居下而得名下湖。村民以陈、黄两姓为主。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，旧时此地归南桂都管辖，即今东凤镇所在，1939年（民国二十八年）才改属江东镇。村子从前四面是江水，果林遍布，望去如湖。明初陈姓、黄姓先在此创村，其后张、柯、吕、翁等姓陆续迁来定居。柯姓来自江东仙洲村柯厝巷，吕姓来自澄海上华镇吕厝村，翁姓来自庵埠镇草果寮村。[1][2]

1958年，村以村名设下湖大队；1999年改为下湖村民委员会，此名沿用至今。[1][2]

地理环境[edit]

村子土质为沙质，属湖岛冲积平原，地势大体自西北朝东南微倾。耕地现有651亩。据传，早时韩江西溪对岸横江、肖洪两村的部分洲园也归本村，后江水冲刷，洲园崩塌，耕地减少400多亩。[1][2]

人口民族[edit]

据博雅地名网，2005年村中有524户、2239人，其中陈姓与黄姓居多。[1][2]

经济[edit]

过去种植的作物有稻谷、甘蔗、黄麻，以及花生、蔬菜和竹笋。1957年至1958年间，村里平埔整地，共搬去坟埔四次、土方三十万立方米；1964年，村中建起生产桥，配置排水沟与电动灌水站，灌溉渠道长约12000米，排灌实现机械化。[1][2]

1973年，村里办起竹器厂；1980年办起家具厂；1983年办起腌制厂，产品销往日本等地。1997年起村中逐渐形成农贸市场，2001年建成集贸综合市场。2005年，村民人均收入4207元。[1][2]

文化[edit]

1987年，村中自筹9万元建成自来水厂；2003年，村里出资90万元接通江东自来水，家家户户用上了自来水。1996年，村中自筹58万元修成村道，全长1080米，宽6米。村委会办公楼建于1974年。[1][2]

2019年9月，下湖村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」名单；2021年12月，村子获广东省爱卫会授予「2021年广东省卫生村」称号。[1][2]
