西牛镇是广东省清远市英德市下辖的镇，位于英德市西南部，镇政府驻联和路1号。全镇辖1个社区和12个行政村，麻竹笋是当地的主要作物，「西牛麻竹笋」为国家地理标志产品。[1][5][8]

历史沿革[edit]

明洪武二年（1369年）此地已有西牛之名的建制。清康熙年间（1705年）一带归浛属怀义都管辖，分为塔冈、高道两图；道光十六年（1836年）改称塔冈乡与高道乡。新中国成立当年10月，又分设西牛乡与高道乡。1956年曾设西牛区，翌年复为西牛乡。1959年4月组建西牛人民公社，1980年底沙坝等大队析出，另组沙坝人民公社。1983年改社为区，1987年4月撤区建镇，2002年1月沙坝镇并入西牛镇。[4]

镇圩旁的连江中有一处深潭，名叫犀牛潭，圩场因此被称作“犀牛”，新中国成立后改称西牛。[2]

地理环境[edit]

镇域东接连江口镇和水边镇，南邻沙坝镇，西连九龙镇和黄花镇，北面与张陂、浛洸、石灰铺三镇相接。百度百科与博雅地名网所记四至略有出入，此处取百度百科所载。[1] 面积一项两家数字不同：百度百科作245.22平方千米，博雅地名网作约166.7平方公里，两者均未注年份。[1][2] 地势以丘陵为主，山地与水田相间。镇域处在连江（小北江）中下游，又位于飞来峡库区上游，水势平缓。[3] 年平均气温约20℃至22℃，年均降雨量约1850毫米。[3]

博雅地名网所载的1998年情况中，镇内有英清公路穿过镇中心的西联、西牛、赤米、金竹四个村委会，全长1100米的西牛大桥连接江两岸；水路往上可通连州、连山一带，往下直达广州和珠江三角洲。[3] 镇政府当时计划在桥东开发小城区，将办公场所迁往新区。[3]

人口民族[edit]

百度百科引用的人口为2019年末户籍人口57876人。[1] 博雅地名网则引第七次全国人口普查结果，称人口约3.11万人，并记为2021年6月所载。[2] 两个数字相差悬殊，来源未说明统计口径，此处两者并存。博雅地名网另载1998年底总人口37524人，以汉族为主，其中农业人口33192人。[3]

农业是镇里的主要产业，麻竹笋是最重要的作物。[2] 2020年8月，西牛镇（麻竹笋）被列入广东省农业农村厅公布的「第二批广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业镇」名单；同年11月，农业农村部认定其为「第十批全国一村一品示范村镇」。[2] 西牛镇于2021年4月进入「2021年农业产业强镇创建名单」，该名单由农业农村部与财政部联合公布。2023年8月，西牛镇（麻竹笋）又列入「首批国家农业产业强镇」名单。[2]

2022年至2023年，西牛镇以置换和入股的办法集中耕地，建成高标准农田上万亩，分布于社区及赤米村、西联村一带。其中西联村约1000多亩旱地改成水田，全部流转给农业公司经营。镇内3万亩连片土地获「天然富硒土地」认定，硒平均含量为0.88毫克/千克。[6]

文化[edit]

「西牛麻竹笋」亦称「英德麻竹笋」，2008年5月30日获批为地理标志产品，依据的是质检总局2008年第64号公告。[8] 2024年3月，西牛镇被命名为「2023年广东省卫生乡镇」。[2]

2026年9月30日，西牛镇在鲜水村赤岭山烈士纪念碑举行公祭。镇机关干部和党员、派出所民警、民兵应急分队，以及辖区学校的师生代表，在纪念碑前列队，向烈士默哀并献上花圈。[7]

名胜古迹[edit]

百度百科的西牛镇条目把罗屋炮楼与江边的奇峰异石并列为著名景点，但未找到该炮楼的单独条目，这里只记此说法。[1]
