大八镇是广东省阳江市阳东区北部的山区乡镇，下辖1个社区和21个行政村。[7]

镇名来自一段地名变迁：此地原为阳江地区的第八屯，清代中叶简称「第八」，后因「第」与「大」在当地口语中读音相近，民国时期起改称「大八」。[1][3]

位置与区划[edit]

博雅地名网载镇域面积约345.6平方千米（未注年份），其排行显示，大八镇辖区面积居阳东区各乡镇街道之首，人口数量列第8位。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代这一带隶属阳江县：南河都的南河二图、三图归善乡管辖，北惯都的北惯二图则属平乐乡。民国时期划归第九区。[3]

1956年12月设大八区。1957年2月撤区改乡，一度按五个乡运作：大八、雷冈、和平、井冈、珠环。1958年间屡经并合，同年11月组成红旗公社，次年改称塘坪公社；1961年分出大八、珠环、雷冈、塘坪、红五月等公社；1963年2月雷冈与珠环两个公社又归并到大八公社。[3]

1983年11月起恢复为区的建制，1987年2月改称镇。1988年至1991年6月间归阳东区管辖，1991年7月以后属阳东县。[3]

地理与人口[edit]

大八镇是山区镇，有大量山坡地与林地。博雅地名网的概况页数据写于2000年前后，记有山坡地约29万亩、林业面积约28.9万亩，主要作物为水稻和番薯，经济作物有粉草、木薯、花生、益智、砂仁等。[2]

镇内的江河水库，据博雅地名网所载为阳江市第二大水库。[2]

第七次全国人口普查结果为常住人口2.53万人。[1]

特产：大八益智[edit]

益智是姜科植物，果实可入药，也可加工成凉果，兼具药用与食用价值。大八镇被称为「中国果用益智之乡」。[5]

据地方特产介绍，当地种植益智已有近两百年历史。20世纪70年代，全镇益智种植约1600亩，年产鲜果约48吨；1985年镇办食品加工厂，将鲜果加工为凉果；1987年种植面积达5400多亩，年产约90吨；进入21世纪初，种植面积已超过一万亩。[6]

2010年，经国家质检总局审核，「大八益智」获准实施国家地理标志产品保护，产地范围为阳东县所辖行政区域。[6]

名胜古迹[edit]

镇内的雷冈梁氏大宗祠为阳东区文物保护单位，保护界限所围面积为2740.27平方米。其界线为：东、西、南三面各向外五米，北面止于相邻建筑的外墙。[4]

荣誉[edit]

2019年7月，大八镇被列入全国农业产业强镇建设名单（2019年）。[1]

大八镇于2021年12月被评为「2021年度阳江市卫生镇」。[1]
