南湖社区是海丰县附城镇的一个社区，在县城南郊，附城镇人民政府和附城派出所都设在它的住宅区内，社区材料称它是全镇的中心枢纽。[1] 它最初是1990年1月为新建的南湖住宅区设立的居民委员会。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1990年1月南湖居民委员会成立时，只管南湖住宅区一处，共193户959人。1995年1月，原属荣港管区的步霞村和笏仔村划入。社区材料给出的2004年数字是1372户4541人；材料写作时，户籍人口约4786人，常住人口约3万人，分10个居民小组，社区党员77人。[1]

经济与建设[edit]

步霞、笏仔两村原以种蔬菜、水稻并向县城卖菜为生，2004年有耕地195亩，其后多数村民转向务工和经商。住宅区分两期兴建：1988至1991年建商住房308套，1993至1995年续建195套，之后又有高层住宅和小区陆续建成。324国道复线和海丽大道穿过辖区。[1]

南湖综合市场占地1200平方米，建于1992年年初；南湖小学则在1995年9月1日创办；附城中学在步霞村北侧。区内设有几家银行营业所、信用社和邮政营业所。住宅区在2000年进入汕尾市十佳安全文明小区之列。[1]

文化与名胜[edit]

步霞村在“文化大革命”前办过业余白字剧团，笏仔村有曲班，后来又成立了八音班和白字曲班。[1]

南门湖在社区内。清康熙二十七年（1688年）知县姚德基倡议疏浚成湖，湖心建八角亭，以九曲桥通往，后来毁坏。1953年龙津溪水引入后，湖水灌溉步霞、笏仔至谢道山一带公路两侧的良田；1998年清淤并重建湖心亭，湖岸砌石护坡。[1]
