关于村名，博雅地名网的说法是：村落沿河而建，旁有小溪与水潭，故以潭溪为名。[1]

建置方面：黄姓人家在清代中期迁入；人民公社化后的1958年立潭溪生产大队，到1999年改为村民委员会，名称沿用至今。[1]
