村委驻地为新寮村民小组，该小组居中且人口较多，村名即由此而来。[1]1998年管理区撤销、重设村委会；1989年曾设新寮管理区；1987年3月为新寮村委会；1984年与油麻地、黄坑组成黄坑乡；1961年为大队。[1]
