永固镇在怀集县南部，距县城约29公里，辖1个社区、12个行政村。[1]镇政府驻地永固圩，在南朝宋元嘉元年（424年）曾是永固县的县治。[1][2]全镇面积约189平方千米，是革命老区镇。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

永固圩在南朝宋元嘉元年（424年）为永固县治所在，《怀集县志》的说法是“重山峻岭，居然平邑，故名永固”。[1]近代以来，这里在清宣统三年（1911年）立永固乡，1960年改作永固公社，1983年划为区，1986年再次建乡。[1]

地理环境[edit]

镇域面积约189平方千米，其中山地约23万亩、耕地约1.3万亩。[2]年平均气温20.6℃，年平均降雨量约1500毫米。[2]水稻土多为麻砂泥田，山地多红壤，适合种植厘竹、肉桂、水果、南药和茶叶等。[2]

人口[edit]

2000年底全镇总人口3.9万人，辖12个村委会、178个自然村。[2]第七次全国人口普查（2020年）的结果是3.49万人，在怀集县各街道乡镇中居第10位。[1]

经济[edit]

据镇概况，到2000年，永固镇厘竹种植约3万亩，松脂约2万亩，肉桂500亩，水果5000亩；镇办水电站4座，总装机容量1500千瓦。当年社会总产值32368万元；工业产值9583万元，农业产值4558万元；人均纯收入3198元。[2]镇内有花岗岩等石料资源，厘竹加工也是当地产业。[2]怀荔线公路贯穿南北，永固至广宁古水的公路横跨东西。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

宿安村是革命老区村，烈士植启芬、陈如杰的故居分别在宿安村的码头村和宿峡村，村内另有宿安革命红色公园和2019年兴建的永固宿安革命陈列馆。[1]1948年6月，游击队永固分队掩护绥贺支队第三团过河后，在富禄的双庵涌遭敌围困，植启芬、陈如杰、邓偶娟等三十余名队员被捕。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2020年2月，永固镇获2019年度广东省卫生镇称号；2026年3月，被认定为第三批广东省“百千万工程”典型村镇。[1]
