村名来历：最初分南田、后山、土头、西田四处，后来以南田为主连成一片，故名南田。[1]

沿革：以下由近及远：1999年设置村民委员会；1987年2月设置南田管理区；1983年设置南田乡；1958年设置南田大队。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2026年1月，该村获评广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

陈瑸故居在村中，朝南而建，面积160平方米，形制为雷州常见的「三间五房」。最初是土坯墙、茅草顶的屋子，陈瑸生于此；他去世后，乡亲们各家出砖出木，在原址改建成砖瓦房，2004年又修缮一次。以故居为中心另辟有清端园，园中设陈瑸纪念馆。[2]
