村内现有1012户4642人，其中党员59人；出产甘蔗、蚕桑和外运菜（据博雅地名网村情，年份未注明）。[1]
村的建制几经更改：先是1982年的雅塘大队，随后依次为乡（1983年）、村委会（1986年）、管理区（1990年），2000年定为村委会。[1]
2021年1月，雅塘村入选「湛江市2020年度全市文明村」名单；2019年9月，列入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」。[1]
