下洋社区是下洋镇的镇中心区，镇政府所在的下洋圩即在此，「下洋」之名来自圩旁的一片洋田[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

圩市初名新市。立圩后，村民大量饲养并贩卖鹅只，圩因此又被称作白鹅圩；随着规模扩大、货品增多，鹅的交易渐渐冷落。圩边有一大块洋田，被圩里人叫作「下洋」坑田，邻近村民赶集时便说去下洋，叫开之后圩名定为下洋，社区名沿用[1]。

荣誉[edit]

社区列入广东省2018年「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单（2019年9月）。2023年5月，广东省爱卫会又将社区内南门沟村、许甲村、新村仔村、净坡园村、下洋圩村、后六村、后岭村等7个村评为「2022年广东省卫生村」[1]。
