乌塘村的名称定于2015年：原官湖村委会一分为二，分出官湖、乌塘两个村民委员会。[1]

2019年9月，列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」。2022年12月，被认定为「2022年度遂溪县文明村镇」；2026年3月，获评「广东省第三批百千万工程典型村镇」。[1]
