吉塘村委会由原新宁乡独立；1983年更名为吉塘管理区，1986年更名为吉塘村委会，1989年再称管理区，1999年起定为吉塘村民委员会。[1]

文化[edit]

吉塘村以南药产业入选2020年8月公布的首批省级「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村。[1]

湛江市在2022年9月认定吉塘村为当年的文明村。[1]
