工农街道是湛江市霞山区的一个街道，位于霞山区的中心城区，辖岭南、工农、人民、霞港4个社区和谢屋、霞山2个行政村。街道得名于辖区内的主干道工农路。据博雅地名网，辖区面积约2.5平方千米，2020年人口普查时常住约4.11万人。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网所载地名资料，街道一带前身是霞山区公社的和平办事处。1967年改称霞山区工农管区；1984年再改名为霞山工农街道，原有的8个居民委员会同时更名，分别叫新村场一、二居委会，工农西一居委会，建设北居委会，朝霞居委会，人民居委会，方兴居委会和海头居委会，下辖的农副业大队则保持不变；该页把工农街道正式成立记在1987年。[2]

2003年2月，经湛江市人民政府批准，从工农街道分出一部分地区，另设建设街道。[3]

此后工农街道一直是霞山区的街道之一。区划地名网记录，霞山区2005年末辖11个街道，2009年末辖12个街道，其中包括工农街道；该网站的霞山区街道目录至今仍列有工农街道，没有查到它被撤销、合并或更名的记载。[4]

人口[edit]

2000年第五次全国人口普查，工农街道有61211人（博雅地名网引作61221人，二者相差10人，此处取区划地名网的数字）；2020年第七次全国人口普查，常住人口约4.11万人，在霞山区各街道中居第6位。[1][4]

下辖社区和村[edit]

街道现辖4个社区和2个行政村。岭南社区、工农社区、人民社区的名称，都取自辖区内的道路（岭南路、工农路、人民大道南路）；霞港社区因靠近霞山港务局而得名；谢屋村、霞山村是街道下辖的2个行政村。[1]

辖区内的霞山村新中国成立时由坑尾、路坡、坡仔、内村四个自然村组成。[5]
