人民东社区属湛江市霞山区爱国街道，街道办事处即设在这里；社区名称来自辖区内的人民东一横路。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

七十年代，此处名为爱国营区第一居委会，八十年代又叫红新居委会（隶爱国街道），到2002年定名人民东社区。[1]

社区在2019年9月进入广东省2018年度「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建名单。[1]
