平湖东村在汕头市潮南区井都镇中段，北靠练江，隔江与潮阳区相望，南临南海。村名的由来同平湖西相仿：海滨冲积平原形似湖，村在湖的东部。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，明建文元年（1399年），先祖从福建莆田迁来定居。[1]明、清至民国初年属潮阳县黄陇都，1921年属潮阳县第九区。1950年归井都乡，人民公社时期为湖东大队，1981年改称平湖东大队，其后在1983年作平湖东乡，到1986年改设村委会，1992年一度并入管理区，1999年复归旧制。[1]

经济[edit]

这是一个以农业为主的村，村民超过半数外出打工。[1]2017年10月被广东省爱国卫生运动委员会授予第一批广东省卫生村称号；2024年1月被确定为「2023年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」。[1]
