平湖西社区在汕头市潮南区井都镇中部，东邻平湖新村，西接凤光村，南临南海，北隔练江与潮阳区的城区相望。面积约4.5平方公里，共1649户、9067人。[1]因地处海滨冲积平原、形状像湖而叫平湖村，后分为东、西两处聚落，此处在西，故称平湖西。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网，南宋绍定二年（1229年），郑氏先祖从福建莆田迁来建乡。[1]明、清至民国初年属潮阳县黄陇都，1921年属潮阳县第九区。1950年归井都乡，人民公社时期为湖西大队，1981年改称平湖西大队，其后在1983年作平湖西乡，到1986年改设居委会，1992年一度并入管理区，1999年复归旧制。[1]
经济[edit]
居民的收入主要来自农业种植、淡水养殖、家庭小作坊以及外出务工经商。社区蔬菜种植面积约800亩，被定为汕头市无公害蔬菜种植基地；另有约1500亩淡水养殖水面。[1]2019年9月，社区列入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单。[1]
